He feared that he wouldn't be able to provide Lily with what she needed, not only a father, but also that he wouldn't be able to do it. But as the days passed, John gradually began to adjust to his new situation.. He threw himself Into his role as a single father and started to learn everything he could about autism. He talked to doctors and specialists, he joined support groups and read books, all in an effort to be the best father he could be for Lily. John soon realized that despite the challenges, being a father to Lily was the most rewarding thing he had ever done. John and Lily found a new routine, one that worked for just the two of them. One beautiful Saturday morning, John decided to take Lily on an adventure to the park. They packed a picnic basket with their favorite foods and set off on their journey. As they walked to the park, John held Lily’s hand and she chatted away excitedly about all the things she wanted to do when they got there. When they arrived at the park, Lily ran straight to the swings, and John pushed her higher and higher as she giggled with delight. After they were done with the swings, they played on the jungle gym, climbed trees, and even flew a kite. John watched as Lily’s eyes lit up with joy and excitement, and he felt a sense of pride in being able to bring this happiness to his daughter.
Lily filled John in on her day at school and the new things she had learnt as they laid out a blanket beneath a large tree and enjoyed their picnic lunch. John paid close attention as he spoke, astounded by the mature and kind person his daughter was growing into. They took a stroll by the lake after lunch to observe the ducks swimming and having fun. As Lily handed John some wildflowers that she had picked, he couldn't help but smile at Lily's unadulterated happiness and innocence. John was appreciative for this time as they made their way back to their car. He was appreciative of Lily's love for him and for him for her. No matter what life threw at them, he felt at ease knowing that Sarah was always there to protect and guide them. He also felt at peace knowing that they would always be a family. Everyone in the room was entranced as her music filled the air. When she was done, the audience cheered, and Lily grinned with satisfaction. You are amazing, my darling, John said as he tightly hugged her with tears in his eyes. Your mom would be extremely pleased with you.
